Scotchtown Ale COTU Ashland-Richmond

by Mike Killelea

About 10 miles northwest of Ashland stand Scotchtown, the one-time home of Patrick Henry.  Henry lived at Scotchtown when he Scotchtown-Sign-Ashlandwrote his famous “Give Me Liberty, or Give Me Death!” address.  He was also living at Scotchtown when he was elected Governor of Virginia in 1776.

Our Scotchtown Ale is COTU’s take on a classic Scottish-style ale.  Brewed with eight different malts, including roasted barley and smoked malt, Scotchtown is a distinctly malt-forward beer.  East Kent Goldings hops add a subtle bitterness, just enough to balance the rich malt flavor.  Deep amber in color, Scotchtown Ale weighs in at 7.0% ABV and has 38 IBUS.

COTU’s Scotchtown Ale pairs well with food, especially roasted meats and vegetables.  It also tastes nice all by itself.

Enjoy!
